iPhone 8: six things you need to know before buying

27 Sep 2017

iPhone 8 is finally here

The iPhone 8 and 8 PLUS are out now in the UK! With queues of smartphone lovers having devoured the stock at most Apple stores, there’s a chance you’re already late to the party until the next batch hits stores. Can you blame them? Apple’s new device hosts a ton of new features to please tech enthusiasts and everyday phone addicts alike, and will act as the company’s flagship phone until the iPhone X arrives in November.

With that said, here are 6 things you need to know about the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 PLUS.

1. Performance for days

iPhone 8 is going to be Apple’s fastest handheld device. Not only is it almost twice as fast as the Samsung Galaxy S8, it’s also the fastest smartphone in the world. Featuring a 6 core processor called the ‘A11 Bionic’, this mobile phone is likely to leave others in the dust. Did we mention you can also charge it wirelessly?!

2. Best camera yet

iPhone’s camera is now even better. Improving upon its predecessor, the iPhone 8 features an improved true tone flash, better colour recognition, and optical image stabilisation that ensures every photo you take is crisp and elegant. You can even record 4K video in 60fps. What’re more, the new camera will let you run apps in augmented reality. It’s one of the coolest things we’ve ever seen.

If you’re not yet convinced, just take a look at these jaw-dropping comparison shots.

3. Glass is back…and front!

Just like with the iPhone 4, the front and back of the iPhone 8 is encased in glass! Needless to say, it looks absolutely beautiful. Just don’t break it—repairs aren’t cheap!

4. It’s iOS11 ready

The new iPhone ships with iOS11 ready, straight out of the box. It’s Apple’s most advanced mobile operating system yet. You can now drag and drop multiple objects and apps, speed through a fresh interface, and change settings with a simple swipe on the brand new control centre.

5. They cost £699 and £799 and up

The base iPhone 8 model, with 64GB of storage, costs £699. That’s a £50 increase over the iPhone 7. And you’ll have to fork out a little more for the larger phone, the iPhone PLUS—64GB storage will set you back £799. Take a look.

6. It’s available much sooner than the iPhone X

While the iPhone 8 is your best bet for a reliable and powerful device, the iPhone X promises to be even more powerful…at least for a premium price. Default models start at £999, and the price only goes up from there when you take larger storage and accessories into account. Also, the iPhone 8 is here right now, whereas the UK won’t see the X until November the 3rd. Keep an eye out for our iPhone X release blog for more information.
