Poverty is horrendous, but we can help eradicate it

18 Oct 2017

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2017

Did you know that hunger kills more people around the world than HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria put together? That’s partly what the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is all about. When 10% of the world population lives on less than £1 a day—we need awareness. Here’s a day designated by the UN to remind us all how lucky we are, and that we can take action to help those around the world who are less fortunate than us.

Fixing poverty

The good news is that there’s probably enough on the planet for everyone. In fact, Oxfam estimates that it would only take $60 billion (£45 billion) a year to end global poverty. The top 100 richest people on the planet could fund that with less than ¼ of their income. That’s probably not going to happen, however.
We need to switch things up bit by bit. What better place to start than the technology we use every day? What if we could slightly tweak our habits and make a bigger difference over time, together?

Using your mobile for good

TPO Mobile lets you give 10% of your monthly spend to any cause you like, and we won’t charge you an extra penny. So you can go on using your mobile phone just like before; you can send those Snapchats and texts, and watch your favourite TV shows, only you’ll be helping fight poverty around the world at the same time. What’s more, we reward you for bringing friends on board, so you’ll earn cash or credit, and your friends will be supporting good causes with their phones as well. It’s a win-win for everyone!

For the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, let’s
fight poverty the best we can. Let’s start with our mobile phones, and support good causes.
